e-RUPI is a digital payment solution developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and National Health Authority. Launched on August 2, 2021, it is a person-specific and purpose-specific payment mechanism designed to ensure leak-proof delivery of welfare services. It functions as a prepaid voucher that can be redeemed at specific accepting merchants for a particular purpose, without requiring a bank account, digital payment app, or credit/debit card.
