Bluecoat

Founded in 1996 as CacheFlow, the company rebranded to Blue Coat Systems in 2002 to reflect its pivot to security appliances. It became a market leader in the Secure Web Gateway (SWG) space with its flagship ProxySG appliances, which provided enterprises with web filtering, threat protection, and performance optimization. Over the years, Bluecoat expanded its portfolio through acquisitions to include cloud access security brokerage (CASB), encrypted traffic management, and advanced threat analytics. In August 2016, Symantec acquired Bluecoat for approximately $4.65 billion to strengthen its enterprise security offerings. The technology is now part of the enterprise security portfolio of Broadcom Inc.
