Founded in 1980 by Mark Hulbert, the Hulbert Financial Group published the renowned *Hulbert Financial Digest* (HFD). The company's core mission was to provide objective, quantitative analysis of the investment advice given by hundreds of financial newsletters. By tracking the performance of model portfolios recommended by these newsletters, the HFD served as a trusted watchdog and performance auditor for individual investors. In 2002, the company and its assets, including the HFD, were acquired by MarketWatch, a subsidiary of Dow Jones & Company. Mark Hulbert continued his work as a columnist for MarketWatch, where his newsletter-tracking methodology lives on.
