Originally founded by major Luxembourg retail banks (BCEE, POST Luxembourg, BIL, BGL BNP Paribas, and Raiffeisen), Digicash launched a pioneering mobile payment application for peer-to-peer, in-store, and online payments. The service works by directly linking to a user's bank account, allowing for seamless and secure transactions via QR codes. In 2017, the company and its service were merged into the broader European mobile payment solution, Payconiq. In Luxembourg, the service is now branded as "Payconiq by Digicash". The legal entity, DIGICASH PAYMENTS S.A., remains an active and regulated payment institution under the supervision of Luxembourg's financial regulator, the CSSF.
