Founded in 1928 in Los Angeles, California, by John C. Tyler and Thomas E. Leavey, Farmers Insurance Group has grown into one of the largest insurers of personal and commercial property in the United States. The company operates primarily as a group of three reciprocal insurers: Farmers Insurance Exchange, Fire Insurance Exchange, and Truck Insurance Exchange, which are owned by their policyholders. Farmers Group, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zurich Insurance Group, provides non-claims administrative and management services to the exchanges. Serving over 10 million households with more than 19 million individual policies across all 50 states, Farmers is known for its extensive network of exclusive and independent agents and its broad portfolio of insurance products, including auto, home, renters, life, and business insurance.
