Founded in 1985 by 18 commercial banks and the European Commission, the Euro Banking Association (EBA) serves as a key forum for the European payments industry. Its mission is to provide a neutral platform for payments professionals to share knowledge, debate industry developments, and collaborate on pan-European payment initiatives. With over 160 member organisations from across Europe, the EBA focuses on driving innovation and efficiency in the European payments ecosystem, covering topics such as instant payments, open banking, and digital currencies. It is distinct from the European Banking Authority (EBA), which is a regulatory agency.
